Training cum Demonstration Programme on “Livelihood Improvement of Farm Women through Family Poultry Production and Distribution of Inputs to Women SC Farmers

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a Training cum Demonstration Programme on “Livelihood Improvement of Farm Women through Family Poultry Production” on 8th September, 2023 at Begunia village of GOP block, Puri district of Odisha under SCSP programme. The importance of family poultry Production on livelihood improvement and household nutrition of farm families was discussed during the training. The farm women were advised to follow improved management practices for higher production and income through family poultry farming. Selection of appropriate chicken varieties, proper housing, supplementary feeding, timely vaccination and day to day care, which are highly essential to make family poultry production a successful enterprise was also discussed. Farm women were advised to follow low cost feeding practices to reduce the cost of production and making higher profit. The method of growing Azolla in the backyard was deliberated and farm women were suggested to feed freshly harvested azolla to the birds. Various poultry equipments and their uses were demonstrated to the farm women during the training. About fifty farm women participated in the programme. At the end of the programme, 20 chicks, 5kg feed, one plastic net, one feeder and one waterer were distributed to each 30 selected SC farm women beneficiaries under the SCSP Programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist and Dr. B. Sahoo, Principal Scientist, and assisted by Mr. Sanjay Kumar Behera , Senior Technical Assistant of the institute.
