Review Meeting of AICRP on Home Science at UAS, Bangalore and UAS, Dharwad during 20-22 June, 2019
The review meeting of AICRP on Home Science was carried out at UAS, Bangalore on June, 20, 2019 to monitor the research activities of Food and Nutrition component. Dr. Lipi Das, Principle Scientist and Scientist-in-Charge, AICRP and Dr. Gayatri Moharana Member Secretary AICRP Cell, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar visited the centre and had a meeting with the Honourable Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad. He deliberated upon the research activities carried out at Bangalore centre and emphasized for commercialization of the food products. Further, requested the support from ICAR to start degree programme at UAS, Bangalore which is under deliberation with the government of Karnataka. The monitoring team visited the villages where food based intervention carried out and had interaction with the beneficiaries/subjects and obtained their opinion with regard to product provided to address under nutrition. They also discussed with the Director, ICAR-IIHR and apprised about the food based intervention to address the burden of malnutrition carried out on labours who are involved in farm activities. Dr. K. Geetha, Senior Scientist, presented the research work carried out under the project from 2017 to till date and also new project proposals for 2020-25.
An interaction-cum-review meeting for formulating new proposals submitted by the UAS Dharwad Centre was organized under the Chairmanship of Dr. N.S. Rathore, DDG (Agril. Edn), ICAR, New Delhi in the gracious presence of Dr. M. B. Chetti, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. L. Nadaf, Director of Research, Dr. P. L. Patil, Associate Director of Research, UAS, Dharwad and Faculty of Community Science on 22 June, 2019.
Dr. N. S. Rathore, DDG (Edn), ICAR Delhi in his address said that there is a need to work in a collaborative manner with an inter-disciplinary approach. A thought on 3Ws – Work done, Work culture and Way forward was to be given. Work done needs to revamp 3Ps- Package of practice, Publication and Patents. Good number of technologies helpful for the farming community need to be developed, publications with good impact factor and greater NAAS ratings was the need of the hour and Patenting of the processes for commercialization was required. Work culture with an integrated approach and Way forward by working in programme mode than component mode is necessary to make the AICRP on Women in Agriculture visible and the same could be achieved by including suitable Scientists in the programmes.
Dr. M. B. Chetti, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAS, Dharwad in his note remarked that there are lot of technologies in the University, in particular the Textile and Apparel Designing and the Food Science and Nutrition Departments that need commercialization either through patenting or by branding, labelling, pricing and marketing. The dignitaries released the millet based products developed from UAS, Bangalore centre.
The five broad programmes were finalized to be carried by all the centres during 2020-25. with the specific objectives and methodologies.
