Organization of the launching of "Nutrition Smart Villages: An Innovative Model for Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan and Capacity Building on “Nutri Sensitive Agriculture: Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan" at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized the launching of "Nutrition Smart Villages: An Innovative Model for Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan" by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar through virtual mode on 10.11.2021 witnessed by 100 farm women representing 12 villages of 3 districts like Khordha, Puri, Cuttack of odisha. On this occasion a Capacity Building Programme on the theme "Nutri Sensitive Agriculture: Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan" was conducted for those 100 farm women in ICAR-CIWA Conference Hall on 10.11.2021 at 10:00 am. Simultaneously , the Programme was initiated in 75 villages across India through the network of AICRP on Women in Agriculture which is in operation at 13 centers in 12 States of India besides the coordinating institute located at Bhubaneswar.

Training was imparted on Nutrition Garden, value addition, consumption of fruit, vegetables milk, egg, biofertified foods etc. A farmer scientist interface was organized in which the scientists and technical officers of ICAR- CIWA participated. They discussed the issues deterring health and nutrition of farm families and answered the queries of farm women. The above programme was successfully organized by Dr Jyoti Nayak, Nodal Officer and her team (Er. Chaitrali Shashank, Mrs.Geeta Saha and Er. Subrat Kumar Das) and presided by Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Director, In Charge. The experts for training and Farmer Scientist Interface were Dr Laxmipriya Sahoo, Dr Sachidanand Swain, Dr Praveen Jhakar, Sri Manoranjan Prusty and Sri Bhikari Charan Behera. The programme was a great success and the farm women representatives from different villages were benefited by being a witness of the launching of the Rastriya Poshan Abhiyan and getting an opportunity to develop their capability for developing nutria- smart villages.
