ICAR-CIWA organised a seminar on “National Girl Child Day 2022” on 24th January 2022 in virtual mode

National Girl Child Day 2022” was celebrated at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha by organizing a seminar on 24th January 2022 in virtual mode under Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The seminar was attended by more than 100 farm women from 20 villages adopted under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav programme of ICAR-CIWA, students (boys and girls) of class V. VI and VII of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Integral Education, Matru Vihar, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar and staff of ICAR-CIWA. In the inaugural function of the seminar, Dr. Laxmipriya Sahoo welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. Chief Guest of the function, Dr. Anil Kumar, Director, ICAR-CIWA in his address highlighted the status of girls and women in the society in the past and their status at present times. He informed the audience about the government schemes and programmes meant for upliftment of girl child. He also shared the efforts made by ICAR-CIWA in gender mainstreaming. The guest of honour Dr. (Mrs) Namrata Chadha is well known for the cause of working on women and child in Odisha. She explained the participants on the significance of celebrating this day. She also stressed on the need for sensitizing boys and creating a congenial atmosphere both at home and society for growth of girl child to their full potential. The guest of honour Sri Rabindra Nath Padhi, Principal, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Integral Education, sensitised the participants about the rights of girl child and importance of their integral education. Dr. Arpita Mohapatra, proposed the vote of thanks. In the technical session, Dr. Namrata Chadha enlightened the participants about the need of combined community efforts to bridge gender barriers existing in society to empower girls and women. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIWA highlighted the different ways to address the physiological and nutritional needs of adolescent girls. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Laxmipriya Sahoo, Dr. Arpita Mohapatra, Sri Nitish Kumar Er. Subrat Das and Sri Manoranjan Prusty.
