ICAR-CIWA established CHC for Processing of Agri-produce and Drudgery reduction’ of farm Women in Lamtaput Block, Koraput, Odisha

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (CIWA) opened up a Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) in remote Limaput village of Dabuguda Panchayat in Koraput district of Odisha under Schedule Class Sub Plan (SCSP). The CHC was formally inaugurated by Dr. Ramajayam, Head, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and water conservation, Koraput on 3rd November, 2023. A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed with Laxmi Debi SHG, Limaput for using different tools, machines and implements for their income generation and can also be provided to other villagers on custom hiring basis and thus can further generate the income. In his address, Dr. Ramajayam lauded the efforts of ICAR CIWA, Bhubaneswar for working closely with disadvantaged section of society at far remote locations. The custom hiring centre will be very much beneficial for SHG members and other villagers that would enable them to use processing equipments like groundnut decorticator, pulveriser, sprayer etc. easily for better revenue generation compared to traditional methods. The CHC will boost the confidence of SHG and will pave the way for development of value added products for better markets for product and enhanced income. This will certainly have significant improvement in their livelihood and conviction to become future entrepreneurs. Dr. Praveen Jakhar, Sr. Scientist and Convener of the programme gave a brief remark on the importance of CHC and the role it plays in value addition of locally available agricultural produce at village level. Sh. Soubhagya Samal, Scientist ICAR-IISWC, Koraput, Sh. Patu Muduli, Sarpanch, Dauguda GP, Sh. G.B. Naik, STO, Officials from Mini Bank attended the programme and assured their support to SHG for higher income. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Praveen Jakhar, Sr. Scientist and Sh. B.C. Behera, Sr. Technical Assistant.
