ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar celebrated ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan’ Week

ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar celebrated 'Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan' Week w.e.f 23rd December to 29th December 2015 on the birth anniversary of two former Prime Ministers Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Late Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh. As the part of celebration, three outreach programmes were organized in three villages namely Kadua, Chamarpada and Bandhahata of Puri and Cuttack district of Odisha. The scientist-farmer interface, debate competition for farmwomen and quiz competition for children were organised. In the outreach programmes, the importance of having closer linkage between farmers and scientists for effective transfer of technologies were highlighted. Ten consolation prizes for farmwomen and 17 consolation prizes along with first three winner prizes for children were given at the venue of each outreach programme. The concluding function of ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week’ organized at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar on 29th December, 2015. A scientist Farmer's interface was organized at the institute followed by concluding function. Dr. P. C. Mohanty, Vice-president, Bharat Krishak Samaj, New Delhi and President, Orissa Krishak Samaj, Bhubaneswar was the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by more than 80 farmwomen and other stakeholders of different villages from the Puri and Cuttack districts of Odisha. The Chief Guest lighted the lamp and inaugurated the function. The programme was started by the children’s dance on patriotic song. Dr. S. K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA welcomed all and briefed the importance of celebrating ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week’ and gave elaborative deliberation on role of ICAR-CIWA in gender mainstreaming and women empowerment. Dr. Anil Kumar (Principal Scientist) and Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist) were also emphasized on linkage between farmers and scientists for effective transfer of technologies and briefed about the activities organised during celebration. The Chief Guest Dr. P. C. Mohanty stressed upon the role of farmers to make India self reliant in food production. He also emphasized that the innovations in science and technology should reach to the farmers for increasing productivity and income. The first three winners of farmwomen’s debate competition from each outreach programme were awarded by the Chief Guest on the occasion. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Jyoti Nayak (Senior Scientist). All the Scientific, Technical and Administrative staff of ICAR-CIWA co-operated for the successful conduct of ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan' Week.
