Farmers' Scientist Interface on Improved Goat farming organized by ICAR-CIWA on 14th March 2018
A Farmers' Scientist Interface was organized on 14th March 2018 at village Meghambari Patana, Banapur block, Khorda district under the project "Enhancing Income of Rural Women through Improved Goat Rearing". Dr. B. Sahoo, Pr. Scientist and PI of the project welcomed the participants and briefed about the project activities in Khorda district and highlighted the role of women in income generation through improved goat farming for livelihood support of the farm women. Dr. Anil Kumar, Pr. Scientist, advised the farm women to undertake scientific breeding, feeding and management for higher return. Dr Srikanta Khatua, Block Veterinary Officer gave a detailed talk on the prevention and treatment of various diseases of goats and appreciated the activities undertaken by the scientists of ICAR-CIWA for upliftment of farm women engaged in goat rearing. Dr Jyoti Nayak, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA highlighted the importance of hygienic and sanitary measures for farm women engaged in goat rearing. Dr Bhagabati Prasad Das, Additional veterinary surgeon urged the farmers to take the benefits through various schemes implemented by government for improved goat rearing and dairy farming. Dr Rosalin Khatua, Mobile Vety. Officer, Banapur encouraged farm women to be self reliant and earn higher income through improved scientific animal husbandry practices. Shri D. N. Sarangi along with officials from KVK, ATMA and A.H. Department, Banapur participated in the interface and updated the technological information on improved goat farming. About 101 farmers especially farm women from the adopted cluster of villages of Banapur block (Gamei, Pandiripada, Gadadharpur, Karadapally, Dasarathipur, Halanda, Saranai, Saluni, Patrapur, Bhimpur etc.) participated in the interface and shared their views in goat farming. The farm women were advised by the experts to adopt latest technologies for making the goat farming a successful enterprise. The interface ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA.
