Demonstration cum Training Programme on Design and Development of Gender Sensitive Integrated Vertical Nutri-farming System (IVNFS) for Household Nutrition and Income

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized one Demonstration cum Training Programme under the project “Design and Development of Gender Sensitive Integrated Vertical Nutri-farming System (IVNFS) for Household Nutrition and Income” at Chitra village, Nimapada Block, Puri District of Odisha on 22nd September, 2022. Dr. Tania Seth, Scientist and PI of the Project welcomed the gathering and highlighted about the integrated vertical nutri-farming system model for growing of nutritious vegetable crops in the vertical structure along with integration of mushroom cultivation or poultry farming to provide balanced diet all year round. She discussed about the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vegetables per person per day and role of vegetables for enhancing household nutrition. Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, Principal Scientist stressed on integration of poultry farming in the vertical farming system. Mr. Manoranjan Prusty, Technical Officer emphasized the importance of nutri-garden for nutritional security of farm families. The training programme ended with thanks by Er. Pragati Kishore Rout, Technical Assistant. At the end of the demonstration programme the farm women were aware about installation of vertical troughs, polythene lining in troughs, filling of troughs with soil and vermicompost etc. About 40 participants participated in the programme. Seeds of seasonal vegetables, mushroom spawn, besan, polythene, vermicompost, rosecan, plant protection chemicals were distributed to the selected women beneficiaries. Various farm tools like sprayers, improved sickles etc. were distributed to the farm women under SCSP component. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Tania Seth, Scientist, Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist, Mr. Manoranjan Prusty, Technical Officer and Er. Pragati Rout, Technical Assistant.
